Five Steps to Communicating Springfield’s Downtown Revitalization
November 06, 2014
11:30 AM - 1:00 PM
Valley River Inn

How smart planning and strategic communications are challenging the historic stereotypes of downtown Springfield while championing its revitalization.

Join City of Springfield community relations manager Niel Laudati and senior management analyst Courtney Griesel for an insightful, honest and often humorous look at the work that is changing perceptions of Downtown Springfield.  The conversation will include an overview of where we’ve been, what’s different now and the vision for the future.

Niel Laudati Niel Laudati is community relations manager for the City of Springfield – managing external and internal communication programs as well as acting as the city’s legislative and intergovernmental program manager. He also is responsible for events and communications planning, issues and crisis management; cause-related marketing, social media and Website content management. A past-president of the Greater Oregon Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America, Niel has led award-winning public relations campaigns and has been engaged in community and government media relations for more than 15 years.

Prior to joining the city in 2004, Niel spent seven years with the Southern Nevada Water Authority, managing outreach programs for some of the largest public works projects in the history of the State of Nevada. Niel is a graduate of the University of Nevada Las Vegas. He is very happily married and has two energetic young children.

Courtney Griesel Courtney Griesel works as a senior management analyst for the City of Springfield, focusing on economic and community development. An author of the city’s Downtown Urban Renewal Plan, she spends much of her time working within Springfield’s two urban renewal areas, implementing plans and drafting and managing programs focused on business growth, development, and public-private partnerships. She is the designer and manager of the downtown parking program as well as staff to other city administered business incentive programs and current industrial and brownfield area redevelopment initiatives.

Courtney has tackled a range of public policy issues including current work on issues affecting mobile home park communities. For the past two years, she has managed a public partnership with the University of Oregon as the 2011-2012 and 2012-2013 Sustainable City Year resulting in work on more than 20 community projects with students, faculty, staff, and an array of community partners and businesses.Raised in Oregon, she received her degree in public policy, planning and management from the University of Oregon and her masters of organizational leadership from Gonzaga University
