TSA 14 years after 9/11:

Crisis Communication and the challenges of representing a large federal government agency in the field from the PR and Communications perspective.

Tina A. Burke joined the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) as Stakeholder Manager at Portland International Airport (PDX) in September 2004, after relocating to Portland from Washington, D.C., where she lived for 16 years.  In October 2005, she assumed TSA stakeholder/outreach responsibilities for the entire state of Oregon, and in December 2006, she added the statewide Customer Service Manager responsibilities to her portfolio.

As Stakeholder and Customer Service Manager for the state of Oregon, Tina serves as the TSA liaison to air carriers and airport management at airports throughout Oregon (Portland, Eugene, Medford, Redmond, and North Bend); local, state and federal elected officials; the media; and other business and industry stakeholders with an interest in transportation security.  In addition, she manages the TSA’s customer and passenger outreach and engagement activities throughout the state.

While in Washington, D.C., Tina held a variety of positions on Capitol Hill, including working for former U.S. Senator Gordon Smith (OR), with the American Red Cross National Headquarters, at a trade association, and an advertising agency.  Just prior to joining TSA, Tina worked in the Office of Communications and Congressional Affairs at the Federal Transit Administration within the U.S. Department of Transportation in Washington, D.C.  Tina was born and raised in Oregon, and moved to Virginia in 1988 to open the first East Coast Nordstrom.
